Medusa Pendant
Medusa is one of the most straightforward and recognizable characters in all myths of antiquity. The gorgon with snakes for hair that turns all those who dare show their face to her into stone. However, the complexity of the character has long been undervalued. The gruesome monster that history and the media has shown us can be viewed as a more complex myth, a great beauty, a story about patriarchy and women, a warrior, and even a reclaimed symbol for feminism.
Regardless of how it's interpreted the Medusa myth is a tragic one. Great beauty being taken advantage by what can be described as a patriarchal figure in Poseidon. Further suffering at the hands of the powerful female god Athena, misunderstanding and a harsh end at the hands of another male protagonist. Throughout her stories though she never seemed a victim. She was never to be pitied regardless of all her pain. Perhaps this is why she is viewed in modern times as the symbol of female rage. Terrifying, powerful and undaunted, a quintessential female warrior she is a complex figure, one that can be found in trace amounts in every modern woman.
